sometime in 2006 i came across this crazy kid, labile, and I really loved her artwork. pixie and i have icons made by her, some specially made just for us
   
She hasn't posted much in the last year; she opted to go to school full time to pursue her artly love, and as I understand it, graduated in the last couple months. her last blog post, last week, spoke of her health and some concerns she had...

and then i log on and see a blog entry talking about a memorial service, and i want to think this is a cruel joke... but someone posted in her last (health) entry that she went to the ER and passed away just yesterday, July 6th. she was too young to go, and leaves behind a husband and young daughter. and i'm ... so confused how this all works. mortality...

please light a candle for her daughter, if nothing else. go hug the people who mean anything to you. tell them how much you love them. in the blink of an eye, it's all gone...

Thank you for preserving all of the liberties that most of us, myself included, take for granted.

i am grateful

I cannot express how happy I was to turn this in, a full 24 hours before the deadline. It's been a very grueling project, but hopefully HUGELY beneficial to my employer whether or not we actually win.
When I came in with my box of required pieces (sprawled on the table in this photo) I opened with "I have a very strange request, Cat. Could we *please* take a photo?" and she was happy to oblige (and even had a coworker take some photos with their camera; I hope to get copies). She even thought it was a great idea!

I forwarded this very photo to my bosses as I was skipping out of the building on my way home for the evening.

Lots of giant projects (and HOMEWORK) on my plate still, but this one? This one is done.

our lives all intertwine. even folks who are not in our inner circles, touch us.

there's a mcd's not too far from work. i go there at least once a month. sometimes it's more like once a week. breakfast. there's a lovely lady, marilyn, hispanic, with a heavy new york accent, over the course of the year she has met (via this drive-thru) my daughter, son, and husband. i know very little about her, but she loves her son and his child very much and is frustrated with some of the choices he's made in his life. she does the best she can, but doesn't think very highly of herself.
last time i saw her, maybe last week, she was extremely distraught. when i asked her if she was okay, she asked me if i knew any hit-men, not to kill someone else, but to kill herself. she said that she was a good catholic girl and couldn't commit suicide because she wouldn't get to heaven and see her momma and family.

i was at the drive-thru yesterday morning because somehow i was wayyyy ahead of schedule. she wasn't working the window and i didn't think much of it because it was early and for all i knew, it may have been her 'weekend'.

i went through the drive-thru this morning just after 10am. she still wasn't there. i asked the employee if marilyn was around, and was told that she had quit. when i asked if she was okay, the employee gave me the semi-helpless "all I know is that she quit" shrug.

so marilyn, wherever you are, please be okay.
